a.Legal Protection of Intellectual Property: In collaboration with our liaison center in Chennai (Madras), India, SUNSGLOW is expected to invite about 100 persons from several Asian countries plus faculty, to attend a 3-day symposium on the afore-mentioned subject. The purpose is to contribute to the literature relating to the development of codes and of means of enforcement. SUNSGLOW notes with deep appreciation the extensive contribution in kind (forty 5-Star hotel rooms, food, drinks, local transportation, touring and entertainment - valued at $50,000) by Indian businesses in response to the call of the Honorable Justice S. Mohan of the Supreme Court of India (Ret.). Once the matching funds are secured (approximately $70,000), a date will be fixed, hopefully for December 2006 or January 2007, and the symposium launched. In this regard, we acknowledge with gratitude the inputs made by one of our advisors, Associate Dean Susan Karamanlan of the George Washington School of Law, Washington, D.C.
b.The Inter-Bar Roundtable: Negotiations are proceeding apace between the American Bar Association/Litigation Section and SUNSGLOW for the convening in Egypt in January 2008 of a uniquely regional roundtable. This event which will bring together all the Arab Bar Associations and the ABA/Litigation Section, will discuss inter-bar relationships and ways to mutual assistance for 3 days in Cairo, or Alexandria or Sharm El-Sheikh. The idea, which emanated from the ABA/Litigation Section, found enthusiasm for it by the President of the Egyptian Bar who is also the President of the Arab Bar Association. It will be funded by the ABA/Litigation Section, which welcomes a new Chair in January 2008, and it will mark the first event to be implemented by SUNSGLOW on behalf of the American Bar Association- The roundtable is expected to have additional co-sponsors such as the Louis Stein Center for Law and Ethics, Fordham Law, the Egyptian and Arab Bars, the Cairo University School of Law, and possibly other international bars.
c. Other prospective programs: Other programs are finding themselves on the drawing board, such as: (i) Police Reform; (ii) International Organized Crime; (iii) Islamic Law convergence with western Laws.
