On December 13, 2010, a luncheon meeting of SUNSGLOW Executive Committee was held at St. Francis College, Brooklyn, New York. Under the chairmanship of Dr. Frank Macchiarola, former President and now Chancellor of the “Small College with Big Dreams,” important decisions were adopted.

While in Egypt in May, Yassin arranged to add another liaison center for SUNSGLOW. This center is located in upper Egypt in the beautiful city of El-Minia – 250 km south of Cairo. It will be directed by Hon. Alaa Makadi, member of Egypt’s House of Representatives. El-Minia center will begin planning for a SUNSGLOW program on Police Reform.

We are pleased to announce that a distinguished lady judge from Jordan, Judge Taghreed Hikmet has joined our board in two capacities, as an advisor as well as a regional representative. Judge Hikmet has been serving on the U.N. Special Tribunal for Rwanda situated in Arusha, Tanzania.

As reported earlier, plans are underway for SUNSGLOW to launch a program on “Piracy on the High Seas.” The program which was giving an impetus by Dr. El-Ayouty’s recent visit to Egypt in July is expected to be co-sponsored by several organizations and institutions. Among which are the following: The Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs, Suez Canal University, The Cairo University School of Law, at which Dr. El-Ayouty serves as an adjunct professor, and the Suez Canal Authority.

SUNSGLOW has just launched a new activity in Cairo, Egypt, called the Legal Resident Research (LRR) program. The host of that activity is the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs. The first to be selected for an LRR is Carol Maluje, Esq.; an associate of SUNSGLOW. The LRR pays their own cost relating to travel and residence for the first two weeks of a period of three months during which the selectee works out a specific research program whose finalization is done back in the United States.

Plans are going forward for SUNSGLOW to organize a Round Table in Egypt in early December for 2 ½ days on “Piracy on the High Seas.” This activity is co-sponsored by the Suez Canal Authority, the Suez Canal University, the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs, among others. It is expected to be held at Ismailia, the headquarters of the Suez Canal Authority.

Our Associate, Judge Amir Michael, who is now serving in Abu-Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, is negotiating on behalf of SUNSGLOW the implementation of a training program for the police forces in the Gulf.

SUNSGLOW is planning to add to the roster of its liaison centers the following locations once arrangements are completed with the relative authorities. These are Istanbul, Quebec, Abu-Dhabi and Kuala Lumpur. This is part of our effort to globalize our activities in the coming period.

SUNSGLOW approaches its historic mission with a new focus, IRAQ, and a new approach to project funding, a grant. This has been necessitated by Yassin’s experience in Iraq which he has visited 4 times in 2007 and 2008, and by SUNSGLOW’s need to move ahead with solid planning in the confidence resulting from fund availability. Since the search for grant(s) is expected to take time to accomplish, our organization will, in the meantime, continue to depend on project-by-project funding.

This year, our 9th in existence, promises to witness several events including a luncheon to which new personalities will be invited, and a symposium on the role of the lawyer in a democratic society. In addition, we have begun to plan for a project in Iraq the purpose of which is to propagate legal education for the masses.
